Teaching Lab.
Once teachers have designed their lessons and units, they need practice in delivering the lessons to their peers or to “virtual students” in an environment where they can get immediate feedback about the effectiveness of their delivery. This environment will be designed to reflect features of a classroom similar to those pre-service teachers will find when they move to their practicum settings. In some instances, faculty members will coordinate “micro-teaching” opportunities for pre-service and in-service teachers to implement their ideas and to get feedback from their peers about the effectiveness of their proposed lessons.
Additionally, this environment will be equipped with the TeachLive system, developed by the Univeristy of Central Florida and licensed from Mursion Software. TeachLive provides Simmons’ prospective teachers and our professional colleagues an opportunity to teach in a virtual environment where simulated students respond to their teaching allowing the teacher to adjust to student responses and needs much like will happen in the classroom, but with far fewer risks to loss of instructional time.
